Uniquely Gifted
Once awhile, we meet someone who shows us that is possible to live life unscripted. Megan Barnes is one of those unique people who does not subscribe to the mainstream mentality. She knows what makes her happy and lives her life accordingly. Megan abides by the mindset: “there is always something new to try, something new to learn and then once we learn, we can move on. We all have many interests. It is sometimes hard to focus and settle for just one. “Why can’t we have it all?” Interestingly, she is not a rebel, she is approachable, talented and professional.
Here is her story:
When Megan left school she really didn’t have any plans. All she just knew was that further education was not for her. She didn’t fit in nor did she need to fit in. She believed that she would be led to places where her talent was recognized and appreciated. All Megan knew was that she liked to work with her hands.
For Megan, it all stated when her father asked her to make an outfit for someone in his office who had a baby. Megan enjoyed sewing and from that gift, ended up with more orders and started doing gift baskets. This was the start of her interest in business. With each new project, she built on what she had learned.
Then she made a gift of a hand-painted clay stone for a friend. Her friend loved it, wanted more and placed an order. This was birth of Creativity Unlimited which incorporates different aspects of many of her skills - graphic design, website design and her stone designing company Spirit Stones.
When asked about her talents Megan said “I can take a concept and develop a design that will best convey people's thoughts or messages - be it a brochure, logo, sales material, presentation or product packaging. Looking for a unique gift for staff, clients, customers and friends? I have an idea that would be the perfect inspirational gift.”
Megan believes in the power of creativity and inspiration, and her stone design company, Spirit Stones is an inspirational way to connect with those in one's life. Each clay stone is hand-painted with a Chinese symbol, with a card providing a meaningful quote to represent the word used such as courage, peace, love, balance or life.
Megan believes that what makes life enjoyable is the ability to be free in all aspects of life and to enrich the lives of those in your life.
Megan is constantly re-inventing herself. Her latest venture is a line of stationery – re:think use DESIGN, which she considers her most creative business to date. When I asked Megan what she thought of the path life had led her, she said “I am always surprised at what I manage to accomplish. I have to juggle a lot. My biggest challenge is staying focused. I have so many ideas running around in my head, it’s hard to narrow it all down but somehow I accomplish my goals.”
Megan is a great example of someone who has refused to have her life dictated to her, rather she lives by the philosophy of “do what you love, get rid of the rest.”
Megan's definition of success is learning and realizing that she has control of her own destiny, her happiness and her success in life. Here is a woman who is living life her way, working hard and always growing. Cheers to Megan Barnes.
