"There are two important days in a woman's life:
the day she was born, and the day she finds out why."
– Elaine Cannon
One of the things that has helped me understand who I am, is a picture of me as a child. In my eyes, I was this curly headed angel...and chubby...boy, was I chubby...and so adorable (if I might say so).
This picture of me as a child was so fundamental to my growth as an adult because looking at it helped me realize how and why I needed to embrace my voice and thoughts. Knowing my voice has provided me with peace and direction. Delving into my thoughts has exposed my true being and exposed what inspires me. I believe this child lives in all of us and that, what we would not allow anyone to do to the child in the picture, must not be done to us or tolerated.
For some of us, our childhood was the happiest time of our life but for some of us, childhood is what we spend the rest of your life trying to overcome.
Here's a Dr. Seuss story that promises that no matter how our lives started, we can choose our paths and live our passions.
“Oh the places you’ll go”
“Oh! The places you’ll go!”
“You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing the great sights! You’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.”
“You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed. You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead. Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best. Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.”
“Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.”
“Except when you don’t. Because, sometimes, you won’t. I’m sorry to say so but, sadly, it’s true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.”
“You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go.”
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.”
“And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed). YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!”
So… be your name Jenny or Janice or Hall or Siddiqui Scher Sun Sharma, you’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way!”
